Freedom of speech:

I found this on a news stations website in Salinas California. I'm a supporter of free speech but not selective speech. And since I have no respect for a school like UC Santa Cruz this makes me enjoy the editorial more.

"So with that in mind, our Editorial Board is wondering just what in the world happened to freedom of speech on college campuses here on the Central Coast? You might think we're simply referring to the situation at Cal State Monterey Bay this past week. That's where University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill received a less than warm reception from dozens of people offended that he was given a platform to spread what they believed was hateful speech about America and the September 11 attacks."
"The protestors exercised their right of free speech, but Churchill was not muzzled.

Contrast that to a situation at UC, Santa Cruz last month when a mob of holier-than-thou, self-righteous students unceremoniously shouted down a group of military recruiters at a campus job fair. One local university -- CSUMB -- stood as a model for exercising the First Amendment. Another -- UCSC -- was unmasked as a place of intolerance in demonstrating the sad trampling of one of our nation's core foundations. Ironically, this is the same UC Santa Cruz where the student body purports to be a bastion of individual freedom and progressive thought. Maybe not."

"We close with a reminder to those UCSC students who think so highly of personal freedom for themselves, but not so much for others with whom they may disagree, like those military recruiters and the students who may have wanted to hear what they had to say. From the 18th century, but still so relevant today, Voltaire reminds us: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.'"

Reminder to Everyone, you can have freedom of speech because of those Armed Forces. No hippy school will ever stop that.
